The phenomenon "Robert STURUA's theatre" emerged in the 1970-s. Sturua and the actor Ramaz Chkhikvadze made the two brilliant productions "Richard the Third" after W.Shakespeare (1979) and "The Caucasian Chalk Circle" after B.Breht (1975) which brought him the world fame.

Sturua has worked in different cities of the world, made over a hundred productions and is known as an opera-director.

Sturua is a People’s actor of USSR. Also he has many national and international theatrical awards. His production "Hamlet" on the stage of London Riverside Theatre (1992) was short-listed by the International Shakespeare society as one of the ten best-world productions of "Hamlet" during the past fifty years.
