MOSCOW THEATRE ET CETERA under the direction of ALEXANDER KALYAGIN

About

In 1992 Kalyagin created his theatre and its history began from putting on the sta ge the A.P.Chekhov play “Uncle Vanya”. The theatre’s repertoire was formed step by stem, there crystallized its inimitable manner – which today without fear may be called unique, original style “Et Cetera” – the theatre which is not afraid to experiment, to start in an absolutely unknown unexperienced material, to be the pioneer. Today’s repertoire of the theatre stands out against the general background of theatrical Moscow. “Et Cetera” was the first to address to A.Jarry play “King Ubu”, significant to all European theatres of the XX century, it has opened for Russia another not less known and significant for theatrical Europe name – French theatrical fictionist G.Feydeau and its spectacular comedy Luciette Gauthier, or Shoot Now!”. After multiyear interval the theatre once again turned to antecessor of Russian drama of the absurd - “Tarelkin’s Death” by Alexander Sukhovo-Kobylin. The dramatic material that the theatre managed to include for these fifteen years is impressive: beginning from the plays by Shakespeare, Moliere, Chekhov to performances of contemporary dramatists, the ideologists of so called “new drama” Mikhail Ugarov and Maxim Kurochkin.

Such recognized stage directors as Robert Sturua and Adolf Shapiro, Alexander Morfov and Oskaras Korshunovas, Dmitri Bertman and Grigory Dityatkovsky, Roman Kozak and Alexander Galin, Mikhail Ugarov and Vladimir Pankov, Wajdi Mouawad and many others put performances on “Et Cetera” stage.

The Theatre has intense tour life. “Et Cetera” showed its performances in many cities of Russia, from Khanty-Mansiysk to Saint-Petersburg, participated in domestic and international theatrical festivals, spectators in USA, Canada, Germany, Japan, Israel applauded it.

On November 30, 2005 “Et Cetera” celebrated house-warming. A New Building on the Turgenevskaya Square – is a unique beyond compare architectural construction, original in its design and perfect in its embodiment. The Theatre is equipped with the most high theatrical technique, it has two odea, which admit 550 and 1200 persons accordingly.
